mBot: The Forgotten Robotics Platform

mBot: The Forgotten Robotics Platform

Over the past year robotics manufacturers have created significant resources and curriculum which are all available through the "Accessories" tab in the Swift Playgrounds app.  These materials can be used as stand-alone project or as supplementary resources in your learn to code journey. Unfortunately, when all of the robotics platforms were compiled for the release of Swift Playgrounds 2.0 a significant platform wasn't included.

The mBot is an Arduino based robot which allows for expansion and most importantly interaction with Swift Playgrounds.  The manufacturer released the beta of their Swift Playground Book on GitHub, but unfortunately it was incomplete.

Over the past few weeks I forked the project and began to rewrite the core functions so that students can access all of the sensors and also simplify some of the methods so that students can be scaffolded.

The updated Swift Playground Book is available on GitHub - https://github.com/dbbudd/swift-playground-books

This course will delivered to our Year 7 Robotics class as one of our units for delivery of the Australian Curriculum.  Once completed I will share an iTunes U course with supplementary resources and teaching programme.
